2013 The 1st Yangtze International summit of Minimally-invasive and Noninvasive Medicine



The 1st Yangtze International summit of Minimally invasive and Noninvasive Medicine was successfully held in July 13th -14th in Chongqing, China. More than 800 experts and delegates from around 20 countries attended the gala including UK, Italy, Spain, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Romania, USA, China, Republic of Korea, DPR Korea, Russia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, India, Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, Ghana, Chile, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

A highlight of the Summit was the inauguration of the International Society for Minimally invasive and Noninvasive Medicine (ISMINIM). Dr. Franco Orsi, head of the Division of Interventional Radiology, Isituto Europeo di Oncologia (IEO), Milan, Italy was elected as the first President of the society. Prof. Wenzhi Chen, the Director of the Haifu Center at the 2nd Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University was elected as the Vice President, and Prof. Lian Zhang form Chongqing Medical University was selected as the Secretary-General. The Society seeks to develop the highest standards of clinical practice in the field of minimally invasive and noninvasive therapeutic medicine through education and research; to promote research in all aspects of minimally-invasive and noninvasive medicine and related sciences, including clinical research in the promotion of quality and personalized healthcare; and to foster closer fellowship among all members in the different branches of minimally-invasive and noninvasive medicine and greater cooperation among all members and allied healthcare professionals. The Society is in the planning of launching a new journal - Journal of Minimally-invasive and Non-invasive Medicine.

The Summit was jointly sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the Chongqing municipal government; organized by Chongqing Medical University and National Engineering Research Center of Ultrasound Medicine; and supported by Chongqing Bureau of Foreign Experts Affairs and Chongqing Haifu Medical Technology Co, Ltd.

Mr. Gang Wu, Vice Mayor of Chongqing, Dr. Franco Orsi, director of Interventional radiology Department of European Institute of Oncology, Prof. Yanling Zhang, the Chairman of Chinese Medical Association, Prof. Jianguo Li, the Chairman of Chinese Association of Ultrasound in Medicine and Engineering and Mr Xiaoling Wu, and the CCP Secretary of Chongqing Medical University each delivered an opening speech at the opening ceremony.

Under the theme of the summit “Therapy – minimize harm to patients”, Professor Zhibiao Wang from Chongqing Medical University opened the forum with a speech entitled “A Tentative Probe into Minimally-invasive and Noninvasive Medicine”. During the two-day summit, 47 speakers from different countries shared and discussed indications, safety and clinical standardization for deploying various minimally invasive and non-invasive technologies such as HIFU, RFA, TACE, Crymotherapy for the management of malignant and benign tumors.

The Summit is a part of the 2013 Summer Events of Ultrasound Medicine that also includes the International R&D Institution Mission to Chongqing, 2013, the 7th 'Dajia' Summer Forum of Noninvasive Ultrasound Therapy, the 2nd International Training Workshop on Ultrasound Therapy of Tumors and the Joint Conference of Chinese Association of Ultrasound in Medicine and Engineering.
